Controversy
This is one of the tougher books that I’ve read recently. Jean-Yves Leloup does a fantastic job of translating the original text and then giving a side-by-side commentary. He deep dives into the spirit (nous), the soul (psyche), and the body (soma) and how it relates to each other in creating the full human being. (As above so below) With the middle line being open or closed to God. Closed being doomed to death in his words. I think the controversial portion for me would be Mary’s relationship being intimate with Jesus. She is even challenged by Andrew and Peter for talking about private conversations and visions she had from the Teacher. I disagree with what the author says about Peter being a misogynist and afraid of women. He could have been trying to protect her from the people in the world at that time period when women weren’t allowed to read or write. Peter was Married after all. Leave a comment below! Should her Gospel have been included?
